Track Of The Day: March
“TOTD: like Match of the day, but featuring much less football and more handpicked songs from the web's finest blogs.“ Said by… well, me… not very long ago. JI
March has finally disappeared, and, in all honesty, good riddance. It seems that in the last four and a bit weeks everything on earth has gone well and truly tits up: Japan suffered at the hands of a horrific series of interlinked natural disasters whilst Christchurch watched the fickle media attention leaving rapidly across the Pacific like proverbial rats from a sinking ship. Meanwhile it all felt a bit 2003 when someone started bombing Libya and suddenly we all felt alarmingly comfortable as the west once again intervened to ‘protect’ a people from their power-hungry tyrant somewhere near the Middle East. No such intervention materialised in Britain as the similar figure of George Osborne told us that “We are still f*cked” – or words to that effect – for the foreseeable future, as forecasted economic growth plunged cheerfully below expectations.
But in the meantime we’ve done our finest to ignore all this and choose some music for you instead. I’d like to make a tip of the hat to Joe Rivers and David Coleman for making some great suggestions as well as keeping No Ripcord’s head above the ever rising technological waters with our newly updated site capabilities.
If you can’t get enough there’s a co-existing TOTD feature on our Facebook page – or in case you think our selections are, put politely, not very good.
These songs aren’t the most widely publicized songs of the month; they’re not an ‘Indie top 40’ (because we figure that you’ve already heard all of those): but they are rough diamonds that have wormed their ways into our consciousness over the past thirty odd days. So here’s March’s list – I suggest you pick a few at random, listen to them, and feel free to make some comments… after all TOTD is really a benign dictatorship (but those are becoming increasingly unfashionable these days I suppose).
